Titanium Roof

National Ignition Facility

The Local Union No. 104 building trades crew working for Marelich Mechanical used their skills to provide the heating and cooling systems for the new National Ignition Facility. This meant meeting the needs from the roof exhaust systems to the inner equipment.

This roof exhaust system is designed to keep today's equipment in nuclear physics cooled in order to operate properly in the exotic environment of the subatomic world.

The twin, blue spiral pipe are 88" round, double-wall, 60' tall.

Local 104 crew stand in front of the air-handling units that are 80' long, 50' wide, and 20' tall.
This two-story tall plenum is part of the ventilation process in unlocking the latest secrets in nuclear physics.
